Paying homage to Frances Bebey, William Onyeabor and Lijadu Sisters, theMelbourne-based Afro-synth duo delivers energetic melodies, deep grooves andaddictive chants – led by a less-is-more manifesto. Featuring quirky synthesizersand 1970s drum machines, the result is a sonic landscape that feels fresh andunique, yet somehow familiar.
Wrong Way Upcomprises vocalist Emma D, along with songwriter/producer, ADP.Signing to renowned UK based record label Soundway Records,Wrong Way Up’sdebut album ‘Totally Right’ was released in February 2025 on Soundway Records.
Emma D, a gospel singer originally from South Sudan, showcases the power,resilience and unmistakable resonance of the female African voice. While ADP,a seasoned performer and DJ, weaves vintage synthesizers and drum machinesthrough energetic, pulsating grooves.
Emma D and ADP previously collaborated on the band Broadway Sounds,performing at Glastonbury Festival, WOMAD UK, Vivid Festival, Splendour in theGrass, amongst others.
Quickly garnering a reputation for their high-energy live show,Wrong Way Uphave brought the boogie to WOMADelaide, A Festival Called Panama, MelbourneInternational Jazz Festival, JerkFest, When Pigs Fly with plenty more yet-to-beannounced shows lined up for 2025 and beyond.
